ABOUT ME (the real version)

ok so where do i even start. my name is Barry. i am a fish. i have been told this is obvious but people keep asking "wait ur ACTUALLY a fish?" and yes. yes i am. i live in the ocean. i do not have a house. i do not need one. the ocean IS my house. don't ask me where i live, i literally live in the ocean.

i was hatched sometime near Coral Avenue in what i am told was "a good year for eggs." i don't remember it because i was an egg and eggs don't have memories, i checked. i grew up swimming around the Kelp Forest with my siblings, most of whom i have lost touch with because there were like 4,000 of us and i genuinely cannot keep track.

i started this website in 2008 because my friend Linda (the octopus, see top friends) said "you should get a fishspace, everyone has one" and i said "what's a fishspace" and she said "just make one" so here we are. i taught myself HTML from a tutorial i found floating near the surface (literally, it was on a piece of paper, don't ask).

i am currently "between schools" which means i am not part of any specific school of fish right now, which is both a lifestyle choice and also because i got into an argument with my old school about swimming formation etiquette. long story. see my blog.

i have a lot of feelings about rocks. i have a lot of feelings about seaweed. i have very complicated feelings about dolphins (see: conspiracy page). i am, overall, doing my best out here.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME
FUN FACT #1: I have never seen a cow in real life but I am convinced they are underwater horses that live on land as a disguise.
FUN FACT #2: My hair looks great because I have no hair.
FUN FACT #3: I tried to get a job at the aquarium once. They said I was "too experienced." I do not know what that means and i choose not to think about it.
FUN FACT #4: I have commitment issues because the tide keeps changing and honestly? relatable behavior, tide. teach me your ways.
FUN FACT #5: I don't believe in astrology. I believe in CURRENTology. (patent pending)
FUN FACT #6: I am currently experiencing a school-related issue. School is not a place. School is a group of fish. Get educated.
FUN FACT #7: I once swam into the same rock four times in one day. The rock did not move. I am the problem.
FUN FACT #8: I have been told I am emotionally unavailable. I blame the gills.
FUN FACT #9: My ex said I was too clingy. I was literally attached to a rock at the time. That's not clingy, that's just where I live.
FUN FACT #10: I can't make decisions. I'm always caught between two schools, and also I forget what the decision was about halfway through.
FUN FACT #11: I tried meditation but kept getting distracted by bubbles. Every single time. It's been years.
FUN FACT #12: I don't have beef with anyone. I have tuna. We are not the same. Please don't confuse us with tuna. we get that a lot and it's rude.
FUN FACT #13: I know I'm a catch. Unfortunately so does everyone with a fishing rod.
FUN FACT #14: I once got stuck in a soda can plastic ring thing for a whole afternoon. we do not talk about this. (ok fine, see blog post "THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE")
FUN FACT #15: I have strong opinions about seaweed brands that no one asked for.
FUN FACT #16: I am pretty sure I invented bubbles. No one can prove I didn't.

MY PHILOSOPHY ON LIFE

look. i'm just a fish trying to survive the ocean lol. every day there's a new predator, a new current, a new piece of human garbage to investigate (it's usually not food, but i check anyway, every time, no lessons learned). i try to stay positive. i try to stay near my friends. i try not to swim into things, though as established, i fail at this constantly.

my therapist says I need to stop swimming in circles. my therapist is a very patient crab named Dr. Pinchley who charges me in seaweed. i don't think he's a real therapist. i don't think i care.

anyway. i need some space. preferably fishspace. thanks for reading my whole life story, i know it's a lot, i have a lot to say and nowhere else to say it except this website.
